Liz Allen, Community and Engagement Manager at Matchwell

Liz has always had a passion for healthcare. After graduating from Georgia Tech, she started her career working with healthcare organizations to help them address a critical need: hiring and clinician retention. A year in recruiting later, she realized an undeniable flaw in the staffing process and decided to make a change. That’s when she joined Matchwell. As our Community and Engagement Manager, Liz is helping us bring positive change to the healthcare industry.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m originally from the Boston area and really cherished my time growing up there. My family ties are still in the area and I love getting the opportunities to visit, especially taking trips to the beaches. I moved to the Atlanta area when I was younger and into the city during college. I’m such a fan of the culture of Atlanta. There’s really something for everyone to enjoy. When I’m not working, I spend time with my boyfriend of almost 7 years and enjoy events around town. We frequently go to Atlanta United soccer games and hike in the local parks. I also like to cook, read, and hang out with my lazy cat.

What do you do at Matchwell?

I’m the Community and Engagement Manager at Matchwell. I’m responsible for telling clinicians about our platform, helping them with account setup and applications, and generally being their point of contact. As we continue to grow, I will help build our community by planning clinician events and building our network.

What do you like most about your job?

I love that I don’t have to be stuck in a box. On any given day I can be working on multiple types of projects and giving my input to our various teams. We are very collaborative and know that all parts of our business need to be working together to be successful.

What did you do previously?

Right before Matchwell I worked in healthcare recruiting for a major staffing firm. I mostly worked with nurses, but it ran the gamut from medical assistants up to C-Level executives.

If you were to start your own business, what would it be?

I would start a human capital consulting firm. And, if money wasn’t an issue and it was something outside my current career path, I’d run a senior dog rescue. Maybe I’ll do that too one day!

What’s something not many people know about you?

Prior to being in the business realm, I thought that I would go to Physician Assistant school. I was torn throughout college on the path I would take. After graduating, I went through a program to be a Certified Nursing Assistant and spent about 6 months doing home health. It was very hard work, but I loved spending time with people who really loved having the company. I didn’t grow up with many elderly people in my life, so building relationships with senior citizens was really special for me. They are so funny and love to chat!

Speed Round:

Favorite Food:
Anything involving pasta. I’d eat it morning, noon, and night if I could.

Spirit Animal:
My spirit animal is definitely a cat. My dream day would consist of sleeping and laying in the sun, which is pretty much what they do.

Intro / Walk-Out Song:
7 Rings by Ariana Grande. Gets me in the money mode!

If money were no concern, I would:
Backpack through South America.

Most interesting thing you’ve ever eaten:
I ate escargot (snails) for the first time (actually at my first Matchwell team dinner). I had no clue they were sea snails, they were delicious though!

Most interesting place you’ve ever been:
I visited Pompeii when I was a teenager. It was amazing to see my history books come to life!
